Journal #2 - Art 1010
For our second journal assignment in my Art 1010 class, we were asked to draw a still life of several objects we had chosen at random. There was no tracing, using rulers, or using compasses allowed and the entire drawing had to be done free hand. Objects had to be touching at least three sides of the paper and it was only supposed to be done with modified contour / cross contour lines. I finished this project took me roughly an hour and it was probably one of the funnest things I did in the class.
Reflection
For as long as I can remember, I haven't really been the best artist. My hand shakes when I draw, I smudge the paper with my hand constantly, and I have a hard time capturing the actual shape of objects. For the first time, I felt that I actually did something right with this project. I was patient throughout and it didn't feel rushed. I didn't move on until I captured the object the way I wanted it to look and I think this is probably one of the best looking things I've ever made in an art class (sad as that seems).
Because I took the time that I did, I really learned how to observe and how to transfer what I saw onto a piece of paper neatly and correctly. Nothing looks quite as deformed as it does in my other works and I am really quite impressed with myself and how this piece turned out.
